Derbyshire Scouts have a number of Active Support Units, who can help you make use of the wealth of activities on our doorstep

On Site Activities

Traversing Wall

Can you move along the wall using only the hand and foot grips?

Outdoor Classroom

The ideal place to try your hand at backwards cooking.

Bird Hide

A great place to watch the wildlife. Let us know what you spot.

Campfire Circle

Get everyone together for an evening around the campfire. With tiered seating, you can be sure to get everyone in.

Pioneering

We have pioneering poles available for hire.

Fire Bases

We have a number of fire bases located throughout the site. So you can practice your fire lighting and outdoor cooking skills.

Shelter Building

Use the natural materials on site to create a shelter. Why not have a competition to see who can build the most durable shelter.

Star Gazing

With very little light pollution in the area, Spitewinter offers a great location for star gazing. Ask to borrow our telescope.

Camp Ovens

Practice your fire lighting and outdoor cooking skills.

Mountain Biking

With easy access to “Open Country”, there are a number of opportunities for mountain biking.

Hiking

Spitewinter is on the fringe of the Peak District National Park, a well known
area for walking with easy access to “Open Country”.

Rock Climbing

For those with the instructors and equipment, there are a number of climbing locations nearby. If you don't the Derbyshire Scouts Climbing Team may be able to help you.

Watersports

Carsington water offer a number of water activities. Including sailing, raft building, canoeing & bellboat racing.

Caving

Nearby Matlock has many caving opportunities. For those with the equipment and instructors. If not Derbyshire Scout Caving Team offers experiences for Scouts.

Geocaching

We have our own Geocache on site, celebrating the centenary of scouting in Chesterfield. With many more to find in the local area.

Hill Walking

Spitewinter is on the fringe of the Peak District National Park, a well known
area for walking with easy access to “Open Country”.

Cycle Trails

There are a number of cycle trails in the area. Running along former railway lines. The Monsal Trail runs through some of the Peak's most spectacular limestone dales.

Indoor Climbing

Wirksworth Leisure Centre has indoor climbing and bouldering walls. As does the Healthy Living Centre in Staveley, Chesterfield

Swimming

There is a sports centre and swimming baths at Chesterfield,
and both Matlock and Clay Cross have swimming baths

Heights of Abraham

A cable car system operating in Matlock Bath, with show caverns
and 60 acres of wooded hillside

Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House / Farmland / Adventure Playground and
Haddon Hall are both within 7 miles

Hathersage Outdoor Lido

A heated outdoor pool in the heart of the Peak District
